The 15th Annual Region X VPPPA conference was held at the wonderful Davenport Hotel in Spokane, Washington, May 19-21, 2009. This year's conference was jam packed with nineteen interesting and interactive workshops. There was also four pre-conference workshops on May 19th available to participants. The second annual golf tournament was enjoyed by all.
Our keynote speaker this year, Vince Lombardi Jr. Vince made the jump from law and politics to professional football in 1975 when he joined the fledging Seattle Seahawks as an assistant to the General Manager. He went on to become Assistant Executive Director of the National Football League Management Council as a labor negotiator and later led two United States Football League teams as President and General Manager.
Vince Lombardi Jr.'s enthusiasm for growth, change and improved performance, blended with his strong personality and first-hand knowledge of his legendary father's leadership techniques made for a dynamic presentation.
Approximately 290 attendees shared ideas and techniques for improving worker safety and health in Region X during the 3 days of this years conference. Record attendence at the Application workshop provided basic requirements and expectations as well best practices to participants interested in applying for the VPP certification. The workshop recieved a 4.0 from those in attendence.
Nineteen other workshops were presented covering a variety of topics designed to provide tools and techniques for improved worker safety and health through out Region X.
The history of Region X VPPPA was highlighted with a tribute to the founders of the Region X VPPPA chapter in 1994.
